In 1998 Jette became a mom. This led her to seek a new professional life. She had been working as a Program Manager at an international telecommunications firm. She needed a saner way of life. In 1999 Jette started attending Potomac Massage Training Institute to certify as a Massage Therapist. This she accomplished in 2000.
Immediately after graduation, before even having received her license, Jette took a Prenatal Massage Certification class. In this class the instructor spoke of Doulas and showed a video. This video was transformational for Jette.
If you have met Jette you know she is a strong, tall Danish woman. Jette had assumed, as do many confident, capable, intelligent women that she was perfectly capable of delivering a baby in a natural way. She ended up with a fearful chemically induced labor and delivery. Her son was fine. But, from minute one the event was traumatic to Jette and also for her son and husband. Jette had found a calling when she saw the video of women helping women by offering unconditional Doula support throughout labor. She immediately knew she had to train and offer this kind of much needed support to women such as herself, who wanted to birth their baby in a calm and supportive environment.
Jette is also the founder of Old Town Massage Center, Inc. which she has built from the ground up. Countless hours of work have enabled Jette to create a massage center that is in line with her own personal philosophy of how a work place should function. Fair prices for excellent quality, client centered bodywork in a beautiful clean space, with personalized service using high quality organic products and highly trained, experienced staff.
Fair Wages, HealthCare benefits, 401K, vacation bonuses, assistance with continuing education costs are all offered to full-time staff at Old Town Massage Center, Inc. This fosters a stable staff of professionals who offer the very best massage and bodywork there is. We may not be the least expensive massage in town but we do our very best to offer the very best.
So starting in 2001 Jette not only was trained in the skill of pregnancy and peri-natal Massage and infant massage instruction, she was also trained as a birth doula and certified through DONA. Jette offered these services for a number of years. Due to the constraints of a growing massage practice and the responsibilities of parenting a young child, Jette decided to put the Doula work on hold to focus on massage, and in particular all manner of prenatal and perinatal offerings. She has now added HypnoBirthing ® Instruction to her offerings and is currently training with Ray Castallino in pre and peri natal work and Brigit Viksnins in Trauma Healing.
Jette holds a number of additional massage certifications and continuing education certificates. She is an accomplished Deep Tissue Specialist and holds certifications and certificates in Neuromuscular Massage, Sports Massage, La Stone therapy, Orthopedic Massage, Muscle Release Therapy, Fertility Massage, Integrative Reflexology, Levels 1 and 2 (80 Hrs.) of Vodder Manual Lymph Drainage training, Byodynamic Cranialsacral Training, Myofascial Release, Trigger Point, Stretching and other trainings taken since 2000. She draws on all that knowledge and the experience of having 20 years of full time professional experience in the field, with every client she works with.
